Formal VS Informal English with Ben & Karen

Ben came for his shopping. Karen wasn’t expecting an audience with royalty. 🛒

Same language, very different registers:

“I’m knackered” → “I’m exhausted.” “Got much on?” → “Have you got any plans?/ Are you busy?” “Sorry?” → “I beg your pardon?”

Informal English isn’t bad English. It’s about choosing expressions that suit the situation—and Ben might be taking supermarket small talk a little too seriously.
